Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

Long lost heir

My brother in law passed away 1 yr ago. His wife and children had predeceased him. The will was probated and everything went to 2 grandchildren. Now we have found out that his wife had an illegitimate child before they were married. I don't know the name or whereabouts of this person but could this come back to haunt the grandchildren? What about the lawyer who helped settle the estate? Should I inform him of the existence of this person even though I have no info on him?

Re: Long lost heir

If the illegitimate child was not the child of your brother-in-law, then it is of no concern. If it was your brother-in-law's child then you should contact the attorney as that child would be the heir, not the grandchildren. Either way, tell the attorney so he can note it in the file.
