my mom passed away and didnt have a will.. i dont understand everything about probate, will i be notified when its ready?

No, the process doesn't work that way. Someone, usually a family member, files an application with the probate court to probate the estate of the person who passed away, if the estate has no other way to distribute the assets. I suggest you consult with an attorney.

The previous answer is correct someone will have to take action with the probate court.

You should also look at your mother's assets and see if she has any probate assets. Any assets that are in her name alone would need action in the probate court. Any assets that are held jointly, payable on death, transfer on death or have beneficiary designations would not pass through the probate process.

You should really meet with an attorney that can sit down with you and work through the process.
