Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio
From Ohio...Father died, no will, im not contesting. My father has a claim for mesothelioma and there will be a pay out. My step mother got an attorney and they want me to sign a waiver. First of all why waiver? Does this mean I do not get any proceeds?

In my experience with these wrongful death cases, the surviving spouse is contacted. If there is no will, then the proceeds are divided according to statute between the step-parent and the natural born child. The waiver might mean that you will give up your share. I would have to see it to know. You can call the law firm that sent you the waiver.
