Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

Power of Attorney

My father recently fell at home and is a quadraplegic (sp?). He has asked me to get power of attorney over his finances, so that I can access his bank account and pay on his bills. He is a financial nightmare(delinquent cars, medical bills, etc.) and I want to help but do not want his financial woes to fall legally onto me and my family. Can this happen?

Re: Power of Attorney

If you are acting as power of attorney you should not be exposed to personal liability for his debts. You will need to be very careful. I would ocnsult with an attorney as soon as possible to help you draft the power of attorney and to make sure that you protect yourself.

Re: Power of Attorney

You might be better off with a power of attorney than as a co-signer or co-owner. I strongly suggest you consult an estate attorney.
