Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

Stock Certificates

I am power of attorney for a close family friend. She's 95 and has numerous stock in several different companies. Most of this stock is in her name, her brother and her sister's names together. The brother and sister are both deceased. Is it necessary to have additional names put on this stock in the event of my friend's death?

Re: Stock Certificates

To change names is not necessary. If the other decedents were residents of Ohio when they passed away, you will probably need evidence that they did not contribute to the joint tenancy. All you will need to transfer the stocks is a certified death certificate for each decedent and tax waiver for the deceased if they were residents of Ohio. The stock then would be in the living party's name only.
