Stock ownership transfer to surviving son

My mother died 2 yrs ago. I have found 100 shares of stock in her name. How do I transfer to my name? My mother did not have a will. Thank You

Re: Stock ownership transfer to surviving son

It is probable that you will need to get approval from the probate court before you can get the stock transferred if the stock was just in mom's name. If you were a joint owner then you should be able to talk to the transfer agent for the stock and they can give you the proper forms and information. If you deal with a brocker, they will be able to help you in that instance.

If the stock is just in mom's name then there are a few questions that need to be answered in order to say what the proper approach would be.

1. Is Dad living or was she married to someone other to your dad when she died?

2. Do you have any brothers or sisters?

3. How much is the stock worth?

4. Was there an estate opened to deal with any other property that mom owned at the time of her death?

Feel free to give me a call and I will be happy to discuss this with you. No charge or obligation for the call.

Good Luck

Contact the financial institution that manages the transfers of this stock, describe your situation, and you should receive instructions and form from them.
