Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Oklahoma

Are student loans ever discharged?

Are student loans ever discharged under any circumstances? my husband and I are seeking bankruptcy. The Oklahoma Student Loan Authority is currently seeking wage garnishment. While I was looking over the reasons of exemptions, there was actually a line that stated. ''I request exemption because this loan was discharged in bankruptcy court. I have always heard that student loans weren't allowed to be discharged. Have laws changed or is it that only certain circumstances that allow it? If this is not allowed any longer, can the loan be reduced due to financial hardship? The original loan amount at the time of graduation 1996 was $36,ooo. Now the Student Loan Authority is demanding over $60,000. Thanks.
