As a Franchise Attorney I can tell you this is a common and accepted practice. Going on your own announcements, even using formerly of information, is not per se illegal. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.

No one is allowed to use the name of your business, formerly or otherwise, without written or expressed permission from the owner. However, legal remedy to the situation may be limited if the name of your business is not protected as a registered name or if the former workers or employees are not required to sign a conflict of interest or other agreement at the time they were hired. If you do not have this clause and/or registration as part of your operating agreement it is recommended that you do so, immediately.
