What is it called when a Judge knows the person that is trying to get custody for a child? Is this legal?

This is no legal. If it is a fact that this relationship is occurring, the judge should recluse himself or herself to avoid ethical and civil violations. It is also recommended that you seek to remove the case and have it placed under impartial legal and ethical jurisprudence. However, you must prove that your have reasonable cause to take this action on your behalf.
