Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Oklahoma
Nursing Home Nurse Aide
A nursing home wanted me to give baths to residents without being certified nor had classes and have had no prior experience. I told them one wing was too much for me to handle and they still put me there. Pressure built up with having no help and I told my boss that I was leaving to find another job and I clocked out and left. One nurse had told me that they can press criminal charges. Can they press charges against me for quitting?

Re: Nursing Home Nurse Aide
No. However, you do have a responsiblity to assure the patients are secure and supervised prior to leaving, particularly,if you are still working your shift. Additionally, it's more appropriate and professional to give notice (at least two weeks) to give them (the nursing home)an opportunity to replace you for the sake of their clients or patients. You didn't mention abandonment of the patients so I assume that you had taken steps to assure their safety. However, you did mention that you clocked out and left so I assume you didn't give notice. This should be of some concern to you. In the future, you also may want to consider quitting your job by letter. This action will provide you with some protection.
