Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Oklahoma

slander or defamation of character

I have recently left an agency due to office conflicts as well as some shady business dealings in which I no longer wanted to be a part of. It has been two weeks since I left and I have now started the process to open my own agency however my former employer is now calling other business contacts telling them that after 5 years I am now untrustworthy. They are also asking my future business contacts to run credit checks on me due to my ''unstable financial situation''. Now please bear in mind that I have never discussed any of my personal financial information with my former employment and I feel now that they are just trying to prevent me from opening my own agency which would be competition for them. I am wondering at this point if I need to obtain an attorney for any present or future slander?

Re: slander or defamation of character

Yes. If you can prove that this malicious slander is occurring and it being is being executed by your former employer; a slander suit should filed. This is for your protection and future employment endeavors. But, remember, you must have PROOF, especially documented proof such as letters, correspondence or emails etc. if you want to be successful in your law suit.
