Legal Question in Consumer Law in Oklahoma
Car Title Transfer
Dear Sir,
I bought a car few days back from Arlington, TX. The previous owner scratched out the odometer reading saying this is a 10 year old car. When I went for registration in Oklahoma, they said they are not going to accept it. What is my next step to change the title in my name? The previous owner is not cooperating.

Re: Car Title Transfer
You could ask the Oklahoma registrar for the specific reason they reject the registration, and what specifically is required as a remedy. Further, you may want to ask them what Oklahoma statutes outline their requirements. You may also want to check with Texas vehicle registration authorities for their requirements to lawfully transfer a used vehicle. If the seller is being uncooperative you may have to determine how to lawfully compel his cooperation by demonstrating his uncooperative actions are violative of Oklahoma and/or Texas law.
