collection agency lawsuit

was sued by a collection agency,paid the debt to the originals, they want attorney fees and court cost, on their site it says they pay that for their clients, why are they charging me? we keep filing to the court back and forwards, the original people I owe hired the agency and then accepted payment from me, didnt they break the deal, is there anything I can do? I have no intent on paying this without a fight. but cant afford an attorney

You need to get proof of your payment to the original creditor. Cancelled check, money order, etc. Present the same to the creditor attempting to collect the debt. If they fail to accept the proof, attempt to find a consumer attorney who may look into filing a claim for violation of the fair debt collection practices act.
