Legal Question in Criminal Law in Oklahoma
Convicted ?
My bud was charged with a felony and received a five year deferred sentence, what exactly does that mean? Has he been convicted of a felony or does it go away after 5 years?

Re: Convicted ?
A deferred sentence means that if you have no violations during the period of your probation (five years in this case), pay your fines and costs, then you show up at the review hearing in five years and the case will be dismissed and the record of the case will be expunged. No conviction. Violate your probation, and all deals are off and prison could be an option or certainly a conviction.
