Legal Question in Criminal Law in Oklahoma
Hello,
I am a convicted felon. I have been working for my employer for 5 months. Today I went to work and was told they were releasing me because of my background. They never asked me about my background our past. I nevered lied to them about anything. Is this something they can do?

Unfortunately, yes, unless you have a written contract with your employer. Oklahoma is what is called an employee-at-will state, which means that an employer can discharge an employee for any legal reason. By "legal reason," I mean the employee was not discharged because of age, race, religion, gender, or other similar protected legal class. Your employer stated to you that you were fired becasue of a felony conviction. Even though you never concealed that fact, the employer is permitted by law to discharge you.
