Legal Question in Criminal Law in Oklahoma

no lawyer

My nephew was appointed a lawyer who would not see him until one week before his arraingment. He has been in jail for three months and has not seen a lawyer. The appointed lawyer quit. My nephew had a hearing of some kind today without a lawyer in which they postponed his arraingment. Isnt he supposed to be provided a lawyer?

Re: no lawyer

His lawyer can't quit. The judge can removed his lawyer. Your nephew can also fire his lawyer. I would suggest contacting the court coorrdinator for the court that his case is in. They should be able to tell you if your nephew has an attorney and if so who it is. He is entitled to a court appointed attorney if he can't afford to hire an attorney.
