Legal Question in Criminal Law in Oklahoma

Paying ticket without going to court

I was caught at the airport with a small amount of marijuana. I have chronic pain in back and use for medicial reasons. I received a ticket with a court date in April. I live in Ohio and was ticketed in Oklahoma. I was told I could hire a lawyer and pay the fine without having to travel back to Oklahoma. Is this the truth or do I have to appear in OK for the court date?

Unfortunately, it is irrelevant if you use for medical reasons because Oklahoma has no medical marijuana law. It is possible that you can take care of this without having to appear in court. It has to be a misdemeanor, which it sounds like this case is. Further, it has to be okay with the judge. Most of them will go along with it.

If this happened in Tulsa, I would be happy to talk with you about your case. If it happened in Oklahoma City, contact me, and I can refer you to an Oklahoma City attorney that is a member of NORML.
