Legal Question in Criminal Law in Oklahoma
Sex offenders rights
My husband is a registered sex offender due to a youthful moment of indecent exposure. He wishes to try to adopt my youngest daughter and I would like to know if there are any laws that would prvent this from happening. He is still registered and will continue to be so until about 2012. Otherwise his record is clean. This offense happened nearly 10 years ago and does not involve children in any way.

Re: Sex offenders rights
It is possible that this could affect his adoption petition, however it will be important to explain to the court the circumstances of his conviction, length of time that has passed and the facts surrounding the acts that formed the basis for his conviction. The home study and investigation that will be conducted will address his conviction as well. If properly presented to the Court, this may not be an absolute bar to the adoption.
