public defender
I have a dui charge and cant afford an atty. The judge told me that he would put me in jail if I didnt have one when I came back to court. I told him that I needed a public defender. He said''You can fill out an application, BUT good luck with that.'' the application fee is 40 dollars. Doesnt the state of oklahoma provide proper defense for poor people?

The law in the State of Oklahoma says that if you can afford to bond out of jail, it is assumed you can afford an attorney. Some courts follow this law stringently and some do not.
You bonded out of jail, so obviously you are not that poor and can come up with money when you really need it.
