You will need to file a Petition for Name Change with the District Court of your county of residence. A hearing will be scheduled and you will need to publish notice of your Petition and the hearing in the legal news. At the hearing, you will be required to present testimony in support of your Petition and most likely the Court will approve your application. The Judge will sign your Order, you will file it with the Court Clerk, and you will have a new name. You will also want to provide proof of your name change to a few governmental agencies, such as the Social Security Admin and Dept of Public Safety. If you need any help, give me a call.
