Legal Question in Family Law in Oklahoma
Alimony Extensions after 5 years of support
My husband divorced in OK 4 years ago. He agreed to pay his Ex a substantial amount of alimony for 5 years and has NOT missed a single payment. She is now threatening to seek an extension. We have two very young children together now and I am concerned that she may get the extension and she knows nothing about the children. Can she really seek an extension, is it possible? What does she need to prove to get an extension? What can we do to fight it through the proper channels (our funds are very limited)? Would a judge really approve the extension considering there are young child now?
Thank you for your advise.

She may ask for a modification of the support decree, but you have the right to challenge it and it would ultimately be up to the court. She would have to show some change in circumstances to prevail in all probability.

She would have to file a Petition to Modify in the county of your husband's residence. It is unlikely that she would go that far. However, just to be safe, consult with a local attorney.
