Legal Question in Family Law in Oklahoma
collecting child support from bio parent after stepparent adopts
My sons biological father owed around $13,000 in back child support when my husband adopted my son due to child abandonment. (He hadnt seen my son or paid his child support in quite some time) My question is, now that he has NO parental rights and he is not my sons legal father can I still take him to court for the child support he owed at the time the adoption took place? If I can and he does pay, he wont be entitled to any visitation or anything would he? Thank you for your time.

Re: collecting child support from bio parent after stepparent adopts
You can collect child support that accrued prior to the adoption as a general rule, but you will need to contact an attorney to review the adoption paperwork, the divorce paperwork and when the child support accrued.
