grandparent rights

If your son has a child and the mother just took off with the baby and moved to a totally different state, how can you get rights to see your grandchild?

Re: grandparent rights

Grandparents have limited rights with regard to child visitation. Although new statutes seem to grant grantparents a right to "reasonable access," it still remains unlear how far a family court will go to compel a parent to allow that access. Assuming that there are no existing conservatorship orders, your best bet may be for your son to file a Suit Affecting the Parent Child Relationship to avail himself of his presumptive visitation rights so that he can then grant you access to your grandchild. You should visit with a family law attorney and fill him/her in on the details.
