Legal Question in Family Law in Oklahoma
Is my husband liable for back child support?
My husband just received a letter from a 27 year old male who is claiming to be his son. He stated that he wanted to get to know my husband, and get his side of the story regarding his birth. My husband did have a long time relationship with this boy's mother when they both were in their teens and for a brief time after high school. He remembers when she told him she pregnant. There was a timing issue that he felt it couldn't be his so he denied the child. He was in the Army at the time, and was in Germany for 4 months. When he came back, she told him 'Her News'. He didn't marry her, and we were married a few months later. He never has seen, or heard from this women since. He wants to write this boy back, and possibly get tested to see if it is his son, but we first wanted to find out what legal obligations could we run into by doing this, and could we get sued for never paying child support if in fact it turns out to be my husband son.

Re: Is my husband liable for back child support?
In a word ... No.
Mom's action to collect child suport ended when the child turned 18. The child's ran a couple of years later. If he is now 27, child support is not an issue. The only issue left to argue about is for Father and Child to possibly have some sort of relationship, and if he actually is his child, inheritance at some point in the future.
