If we have joint custody, do we each see the child half the year?

Joint custody does not necessarily mean split time. It means that you both share legal custody of the children. Under a joint custody plan, one parent could have the kids 65 percent of the time or more. It deals with decision making, not time. Some joint custody plans do have parents splitting time equally.
