Mediation with the objective of joint custody

Is mediation a positive alternative when the objective is joint custody? How does the courts look at mediation for custody decisions? Thank you.

Mediation is more and more often being used to resolve issues in divorce actions. Absent some overridding circumstance, anytime the parents of a child reach an agreement concerning their child's care, custody and control a divorce court will likely impliment that agreement.
