Legal Question in Family Law in Oklahoma
Private Adoption Matter
My neice has lost custody of her daughter to Oklahoma dhs. Regaining custody has been difficult and it seems like the dhs is going out of their way to make it more so. I was wondering if my neice still has the authority to sign private adoption papers so that I may adopt my neice and if so, what is the best way to start this process.

Re: Private Adoption Matter
It depends on a variety of factors. If your neice's parental rights have been terminated, then no she does not have the authority to consent to an adoption. If DHS just has legal custody, then maybe. You would need to consult a lawyer in your area to determine your standing with regard to this issue. Good luck
