How can your spouse adopt your child from 1st marriage
My daughter and her new husband are wanting to have the child's new father adopt him.She had all paternal rights taken away from his birth father after her divorce.Her new husband wants the child to have his last name.He is a fireman in Oklahoma and they don't have extra money to hire a lawyer unless they could pay the cost out over time.Can they do the adoption themselves?What do you suggest?

Adoptions are extremely intricate and complex legal matters. The penalty for a mistake can be severe and tragic. Judges and courts are not forgiving of legal mistakes - even if it's only a technicality. While these things can be done, the risk can outweigh the rewards. As an attorney, I can't do much plumbing work, electrical work or mechanic work. Most often, it is more economical in the long run to pay someone who knows how to do it. But, if you want to study up on the subject, these materials are located in the county law library (at least here in Texas - I can't speak for OK).
