Legal Question in Family Law in Oklahoma

Unmarried and Pregnant

I am 19 years old and I am going to have a baby in July 2007... I am with my baby's dad right now but I don't think that we will stay together for long... If I do put him on the birth certificate what kind of rights does he have? Can he ever just take my child from me and leave? Because my friend was in this situation and she met up with her baby's dad at the mall and he took the baby and she hasn't seen her son in 2 months because he dissappeared with him. But the police say they can't do anything because he is on the birth certificate... I just don't want something like that to happen to me! Is it better if you are not married not to put the father's name on the birth certificate? Or should I put it on and make sure that I have full custody? I am just confused!?!?!

Re: Unmarried and Pregnant

You should file a Petition for Paternity that establishes custody, visitation and child support. You likely will need to hire an attorney to accomplish the same.
