Legal Question in Family Law in Oklahoma

My x-husband has been paying court ordered child support for 11 years. All the sudden he wants to re-calculate the amount. He has came up with a number from the on-line state calculator. Does the new number have to go through the court system?? I don't agree with his number. How does an "official" change in child support amount come about??

Child support is based on the gross incomes of the parents, as well as a number of other factors. You can estimate the new amount by using the calculator on the DHS web site, but it is adviseabe to consult with an attorney before agreeing to anything.

To "officially" modify child support the court will need to enter an order. This is done by filing a Motion to Modify and either presenting for the court's approval an Agreed Order Modifying Child Support or presenting evidence to the court at a hearing and having the court decide the appropriate amount.
