Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Oklahoma

My Dad's common law wife and son up and moved out of state in May 2009 and left all her animals she told me that she knew that I would take care of them. They stated that they were not coming back.She has not made an attempt to come get them or even called for them. I have been taking care of them since then, so am I legally now the owner of these animals?

You have had these pets close to a year. Check with your dad and ask him to email or write you a note to say that the animals are yours. This would be the cleanest and best way to get custody of those pets.

If your Dad or his wife do not respond, then send them a letter asking them to let you know within a date certain, if they wish to have their animals back. If so, ask them to reiburse you for your cost and expenses. After that period, ask your Vet or the local animal shelter to assist you with the adoption papers.
