Martial Arts Gym - Contract Problem
Manager of a Martial Arts Gym and I BOTH signed an OPEN-ENDED contract last thursday, but I DID not trade ANY financial information that day as I agreed to come back the following Monday to pay if I decided it was for me. (He and his partner was very dishonest and shady about their terms and hidden fees). Therfore, I came back the next day and told the owner I was dissatisfied and would not like to join the gym because there is certainly a communication error b/t him and the other manager. He basically told me if I didn't want to be a member, that I didn't have to. So I left.
Yesterday, the other manager calls me and tells me ''the owner just called me today and says you need to pay 189'' because you did not bring in a 30-day written cancel. notice the day you came and talked with him. He was VERY personal with his anger and I even asked him why BOTH of them were takin it personally. I'm a customer and I'm dissatisfied, customers come first.
He wanted a direct payment over the phone and for me to email the letter of cancel. to him.
I think this is all BS and they're really trying to get the money from me for their own sake, by any means. Am I legally? Any loop holes?

Re: Martial Arts Gym - Contract Problem
You should review your contract carefully. Did you sign a document that bound you to perform, or did it require additional information, etc. before it was a binding legal contract. Although it may be unprofessional to act as they did, the real question is do they have a binding contract. You may think about documenting your position in writing with them especially as to the verbal agreement regarding terminating your contract.
