Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Oklahoma
I was playing with my roommates dog and I threw a ball for him. He ran to get it and knocked in a different direction and he ended up running into a vase and breaking it. It is a 4 foot wooden vase thats worth about $60. My roommate is trying to get me to pay for it.
Am I the one that should have to pay for it, or should he since it is his dog that broke it?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Your roommate's dog broke the vase. To that extent, your room mate has responsibility for the breakage. However, you threw the ball to the dog inside the apartment/house. So, you have some responsibility. It is better to split the cost of the vase instead of having to go to court as that would be far more expensive. Ask him to show you the receipt for the vase or some proof of its price at the time he purchased it.
