assistance with the term ''unverified''

i am representing myself Pro Se in a civil suit and recently filed an answer to a petition. while at the scheduling conference the judge mentioned that it was ''unverified''. could you explain this term and how a filed document might be verified? thank you

I suspect the judge wants signatures notarized.
