Legal Question in Employment Law in Oklahoma
Independent contractor rights
I am a real estate appraiser, and was terminated from my job after 7 years of employment with an appraisal company. Two weeks before my termination I was told I would be considered contract labor. Previously I was on salary. Contract labor meant I would receive 50% of the appraisals I completed, take care of my own taxes and receive payment when the company got paid from the client. This was a verbal agreement. I accepted these terms based on the promise of being given all the work received from a government contract the company was expecting to get in six months. The termination came out of nowhere. I was so distraught that I failed to make a print out of appraisals I had done which I had not been paid for. I asked the company for a print out a few months later (after I was over being so mad). I needed it mainly so that I could more accurately estimate my quarterly payments to the IRS. It has been over a month and I have received nothing. In addition, I also know there are still some appraisals I completed that I have not been paid for. Is there something I can do 'legally' to get records of my work from this company?

Re: Independent contractor rights
The information about the appraisals would be a necessary, or an implied, part of the verbal contract you made with the company; the legal remedy would be to file a breach of contract against the company for a copy of the documents and an accounting under your contract.
