Legal Question in Employment Law in Oklahoma
Is this slander?
I was recently terminated for theft, and although this is completely untrue, my previous employers are telling associates of the company that I was fired for stealing and this has spread to the local community and is now effecting my family, friends, and my ability to secure employment in my field. Is there anything I can do to recover the damage done to my reputation, and stop them from continuing to spread these lies?

Re: Is this slander?
Yes, you can sue them for defamation and slander, but you'll need to prove the theft allegation is untrue. Also, you'll need to show some of the harm. Bottom line, if you have some evidence that will show the falsity of the allegation, you may well have a case. You'll probably want to consider an attorney as the intricacies of a defamation cause of action may be more complex than you can do yourself.
