Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Oklahoma
Apartment Lease
Hi, I signed my apartment lease 4 months ago, it states that I can have a pet as long as I sign the pet lease and pay the pet deposit. My landlord changed the policy to no pets allowed period. I haven't given a pet deposit or signed a pet lease, I didn't know the policy changed until I tried to do just that. I know they can't change the lease without my consent, but my question is how does that work with a separate pet lease. Should I technically still be able to get a pet if I pay the deposit and sign the pet lease or can they legally change that to where I cant?

Re: Apartment Lease
Usually, pet occupancies are a part of the original lease, not separate. This stipulation is made up front, not after the fact. You didn't state whether this was addressed in the orginal lease that you signed. Either way, the landlord has the option to determine if a pet is allow on the premises, but this is appropriate to discuss this clause prior to or during the signing of your lease agreement. I hope this helps.
