Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Oklahoma

Can Landlord get double rent?

I moved out of a duplex in April 04. The lease was not up till Sept 04. In the contract there was no discloser of an early termination fee and and on the moving day I spoke with the landlord and he told me that I would just lose my deposit. That was the last time I spoke with the landlord. Now it's Oct 05 and I recieve a letter from an law office stating that I owe the landlord rent for the months of May 04 to Sept 04 because I broke the lease. How can he do that when a month after we moved out he rented the duplex out to someone else. Isn't that called double booking or something? I thought he would have had to leave the duplex empty for the remainder of our lease inorder to collect the rent. Instead he moves someone else in, collects rent from them, and then wants to collect rent from us too. is that legal? Lastly, can he charge me for those months when the only stipulation in the lease agreements for breaking the lease was the lose of your deposit? Thanks for any help you can provide.
