Legal Question in Personal Injury in Oklahoma
Slander
I was informed today that the school
I work at is not going to rehire me
because they feel that the previous
teacher who had my job before me
has slandered my name so much
that they do not feel I will be
successful. I asked if I had done
anything wrong and they said no,
they just feel that because ''basically
this person slit my throat'' they do
not believe I can teach successfully
at this school next year, that we will
be fighting the same issues with kids
and parents again next year. I need
to know if I can sue over this issue
(both the school and the person who
slandered my name) and what I
would need in order to do this.

Re: Slander
I would suggest you get the school to put its reason in writing, to specifically include what the "previous teacher" said about you, specifically how that person's statement disqualifies you, and specifically that you've done nothing wrong. You might even consider asking them in writing for this letter; that is, you write a letter asking for them to confirm what they said to you and put it in writing. Depending on what they put in writing and any other witnesses to their comments, you may have a claim.
