Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Oklahoma

I was given a dog from a person who couldn't take care of anymore, although he is not owner. The owner is in Iraq and will be coming home soon. Does she have legal rights to dog? I've fell in love with him and have spent alot of money on shots and pet deposits for my apartment.

Is the dog a registered dog, i.e. through the kenels? Does the owner pay for hte care of the animal? If the answer to both questions is a no, then yes, you can keep the animal and tell her your reasons why you wish to keep the animal. How long has the dog been away from its first owner? If it is a long time, and she has not paid for the care, then you have a better chance too. But do let the previous owner know your plans.
