Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Oklahoma
lease payments
I'm behind in storage payments, i owe 165. i tried paying 110 which is 2 months on aug 12th and they refused payment on about the 20th i received certified letter saying they would keep and sell my belongings if 165 wasn't received. I sent my 18 yr old son to give another payment of 161 and they refused it again and told him that we had to have my van and a trailer to unload it instead of the car he went in, (i had the van at work). Is this leagal for them to refuse these payments? Is there anything i can do?

Re: lease payments
Thank you for your question. A storage rental business can obtain a lien on your property and sell it if rental is unpaid. I would need to see your rental agreement to determine if they had a right to refuse your rent offer and use of vehicle to remove it. I would also need to know if you had been notified that your rental agreement was terminated for non-payment. A judge might find that they should not have rejected your payments but this might not occur until after your property has been sold. At that point its too late to save your property. If you value your property you should get the $165 together and get them paid.
