Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Oklahoma

How to protect inheritance for adult child

We have one son. We want him to inherit our entire estate. However, we also have a daughter-in-law. We like her, get along with her, etc. This is not a grudge match. It is a matter of economics. Simply put, our daughter-in-law could not save two nickels if they hid from her. She spends freely on anything and everyone. Example, always tipping $10.00 to a waitress who brings her a $3.00 cocktail. So, we would like to protect our son and, in doing so, protect his family. Is there a way to do this?

Re: How to protect inheritance for adult child

You can control the ditribution of your estate to a certain extent through various estate planning vehicles. Once assets are distributed to your son your control over those assets ends. He may give his wife assets that he received from you. You can restrict the types of things for which your son can use your assets and arrange to leave remaining assets to your grandchildren. The actual plan should be prepared by an experienced estate planning attorney.
