Rights of Grandchildren

My grandmother recently died. My grandfather and my father preceeded her in death. The only surviving heirs are my uncle, my brother, and myself. My uncle is telling us that due to my father's death, my brother and I are not entitled to any of the estate. However, there is a probate hearing scheduled for 23 March. According to my uncle, the will states that my brother and I are ''to be taken care of by other family members''. Since he is the only surviving family member, does that mean that he is obligated to share the estate with us? Do we need to be present for the probate hearing? Do we need an attorney? Is his attorney obligated to tell us the exact contents of the will? Thanks
