The generic design of the awareness ribbon is not copyrighted. But the ribbon in some colors may be protected by registered trademark. For example, in Canada the pink awareness ribbon is the registered trademark of the Canada Breast Cancer Assn. Before you use it in jewelry, google "awareness ribbon [color] trademark servicemark" as a quick check to see if that color is trademarked or servicemarked (a service mark is a trademark for a service; same sort of thing).
