Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Oregon
Bankrupting a second mortgage
Can we file bankruptcy in Oregon without an attorney? If we bankrupt a 2nd mortgage, will we lose our home? We have a Farmer's Home Loan. Will the government take away the loan if we claim bankruptcy?

Can you file w/o an attorney? Sure. Is it wise? Let me suggest that the answers to your questions are complicated enough and depend enough on the specific facts of your case that the cannot be answered here, and that if you do not know the answers, filng bankruptcy without a lawyer would be stupid. Bankruptcy is a complex area of the law, and if you don't know what you are doing, you will likely cause yourself more harm than good.

I would just add that if you cannot afford a lawyer, go to your local Legal Aid Society. Most bar associations also have a panel of attorneys who will work for reduced fees.
