Completion for Chapter 7 case

It takes approximately 90 days from filing for a Chapter 7 to be completed, unless there is dischargeability litigation or other issues to be resolved.

Time for relief under chapter 7

David White's answer is correct, but maybe was not what you were looking for. You get relief from collection actions as soon as the chapter 7 is filed. The paperwork for a chapter 7 is about twice as complex as a 1040 tax return, and takes time to complete. How long is a function of how complex your financial situation is. Once you file, it takes about 309 days to a 341 creditors meeting, and then 60 days after that, the case is usually completed, if you get a discharge (the usual result).
