Legal Question in Business Law in Oregon
failure to pay in over a month
I worked over the summer for a small business that signed people up for wind energy. I was hired without meeting the employer, and last worked in July. It is now September 10 and after filling out employment papers and numerous emails to the employer I still have not recieved a check. He says he still needs my passport ID and to sign some form that I have already filled out. What are my rights?

Re: failure to pay in over a month
Oregon has strong protections for employees who are not paid, as scheduled. Employers can face severe fines and penalties, and you get paid.
You can file a complaint with the Wage & Hour Division of the Department of Labor and Industries at:
http://www.oregon.gov/BOLI/WHD/docs/wageclaim.pdf
Also, you should notify the Oregon Public Utility Commission and tell them which electric utility your employer is working for and that you did not get paid. Call the OPUC at one 800 five-five-two 2404 and tell them about this ripoff.
