Legal Question in Business Law in Oregon

Severance package/Lawsuit

The company I worked for just shut it's doors and laid me off without ANY notice. They are in the middle of a lawsuit.Part of the severance package is I have to sign a waiver to the lawsuit. I believe I still receive the majority of the money even if I do not sign because it is part of the Payment in Lieu of Warn notice. I really don't understand how I should handle this. I was told everyone is a part of the lawsuit and will receive a settlement if you did or didn't sign up for the lawsuit. I need to figure out if I have to sign or not for ALL the money or just part and what is the best alternatives I have. If it is worthwhile for me to sign or not to sign. I am a single mom now and trying to take care of my kids and now I have to find a job that I will probably only be able to make half of what I was making before. Please help.

Re: Severance package/Lawsuit

Because of the large amounts of money involved and the apparent complexity of the arrangements, you definitely should hire an attorney, particularly one with experience in employment law.

You can get free assistance in finding an appropriate lawyer at the web site of the Oregon State Bar, http://www.osbar.org/public/ris/ris.html

Participating attorneys agree to charge only $35 or less for the first consultation.
