Legal Question in Consumer Law in Oregon

I bought a shelf unit from Lowes, inside the box was feces, I was putting this product together with my children and was so upset about this unsanitary issue in my home. I contacted the manufacture of the product and they offered to reimburse me $55.00 and clean my carpets. This was not sufficient when I have bought a couple hundred dollars worth of this closet shelving. Now the company has passed it on to their lawyer and we are told we need to wait to hear from them. Is this something I need to take to court? How should I proceed?

It depends on what the company does. The company could easily just ignore you, and then you would have to take it to court. The statute of limitations on torts is 2 years, so don't let it drag on too long.
