Legal Question in Consumer Law in Oregon

Gift Certificates

I gave my husband a gift certificate in Dec 2005 which I purchased from a small garden art business. There was no expiration date and I asked the owner/agent about it. He said that it can be used anytime. They had two locations. If the location I was at (Eugene, OR) closed it's doors, the other location in Newport, OR would honor it. My husband tried to use it today (Feb 2007) in Eugene and was told the gift certificates were only good for 60 days. They would not take it. Is this legal and do I have any right to getting my cash back?

Re: Gift Certificates

You are entitled to use the gift certificate. To use it, or get your money back, however, you may have to file a claim in small claims court.
